Chattanooga, the reigning Best Town Ever according to Outside Magazine, is a mid-sized southern city nestled between the mountains of southeastern Tennessee and the Tennessee River. Chattanooga boasts a variety of outdoor activities, a booming arts community, a wealth of local history, and wonderful local food and beer. Also known as Gig City, Chattanooga is the first municipality in the Western Hemisphere to offer 10-gigabit-per-second fiber internet service to all residents and businesses, creating a city-wide incubator for emerging technology. In 2012, Chattanooga Public Library became the first public library in the U.S. to offer access to a full gig of speed. Chattanooga is centrally located two hours from Nashville, Knoxville, and Atlanta, and our planning team resides throughout the region. We would be excited to host Code4Lib in 2017, welcoming the library coding community to Chattanooga.
Based on the experiences of previous conference hosting teams and in order to keep prices as low as possible, we plan to engage a conference planning organization to negotiate all of our contracts, including venue, hotel, wireless, catering, and AV.
Projected cost, based on local investigation and previous years’ budgets:
We plan to engage in significant sponsorship engagement in order to help keep the cost as low as possible for attendees.
The Chattanooga Convention Center, the first farm-to-table venue of its kind, offers space for a large gathering and smaller breakouts -- plus electric shuttles.
In order to keep costs low -- and to encourage you to explore Chattanooga! -- preconferences may be hosted at local universities and the Chattanooga Public Library.
In keeping with previous years, the conference would likely be scheduled in February or March, depending on venue and hotel availability and price.
Chattanooga was voted Outside magazine’s 2015 Best Town Ever.
Our organizers have experience with planning events and conferences from coast to coast. We have the CVs to prove it.
